Brenner’s Steakhouse Katy FreewayLunch at BrennersI have gone to Brenners on Katy Freeway often for special lunch occasions. The food is great but portions I find small for the cost. The lunch menu for a main meal from the $29 to $39. They need a lighter, less expensive lunch menu for ladies who want to go somewhere special and not spend that much money. I wouldn't go there and pay myself, not at lunch.
The onion soup was great! But, I expected french onion soup as you get elsewhere. The landscaping is absultley amazing and was being taken advantage of by taking family photo's after dinner. Great food and excellent service! One of our party requires gluten-free, and they thoughtfully provided a pre-prepared gluten-free menu (though it took a few minutes to retrieve). Attentive service and great deserts. We were seated in the side house off the main restaurant and accordingly I was concerned that the service might be less attentive. Those concerns were for naught though as I actually believe the service was even better then normal! As usual the food and service were outstanding. Brenners is my go to when she needs a great night out. The bone in ribeye is by far THE best steak I have ever tasted. It will put anything Ruth's Chris, Morton's, or The Ritz Carlton has to shame!!!!
I took her there on our first date (she had never been) and her exact quote was, "you have ruined steak for the rest of my life. We were first seated at an extremely small table that seemed to be just placed in the middle of other tables in the restaurant. Thankfully, one of the managers must have clued into our body language and maybe expressions as people and waitstaff passed by and occasionally bumped into us. He came over and offered to move us to a newly opened larger table situated in a corner, which was more private and much more comfortable. Much better! Thank you! We watched as other patrons were seated at the small table and rejected it promptly. From then on, the experience was wonderful! We would go back again. It took away from our dinner, and I don't think I would select Brenner's for a romantic dinner in the future. You may as well go to Chili's it is just as loud. The food was very good, but not sure why you would serve the fried shrimp by pushing them into the mashed potatoes, it made the crust soggy, and I did not enjoy the combined flavors! Fried shrimp should not be soggy. Everyone else at the table ate steak, and all were cooked perfectly. Side dishes were excellent and our waitress was excellent and very friendly, we did not have to wait for anything... Food and service was great. Our meats were prepared perfectly (and always have been there). This is sometimes a challenge for my wife who likes her meat close to well done which often either comes out under-done or near burnt at some restaurants, but Brenner's always gets it right. We usually eat there somewhat early (around 6:30), so this time we ate about 7:30 which was fine, but it became a bit noisier later in the evening which we weren't used to. It seems to me that the quality is always to be relied on as a very fine eating establishment. The steak I had (New York Strip) was prepared wonderfully. It melted in my mouth. I had very little trouble eating all 16 ounces of it. The salad and potatoes were very good, too. My wife also very much enjoyed her filet, as well as our guests, the Searfoss's. Whaaaaa?Everything would have been so perfect, but my steak wasn't even close to the best I've had in town. The au ju sauce they poured in the plate, for me, detracted from the steak, and I had a filet. Tough to cut? I think mine personally didn't come from the right part of the cows back. Measurements were off, because mine was a store bought steak, taste wise. Not filet mignon. I ended up eating only half of it. I was surprised manager didn't ask WHY when he took it away! Sad. The rear patio looked like something out of a Thomas Kinkaid painting! We weren't seated outside but it is a lovely outdoor setting suitable for dining or private functions. We had a window table which was just as nice. I could hardly believe it was so close to the interstate. The servers and managers were knowledgeable and very attentive. My favorite part - it was not noisy at all. The only loud noises were from a few nearby cowboys :) So many restaurants have poor acoustics but I did not have trouble hearing my dinner guest at all. And of course the food was wonderful - my filet mignon was cooked perfectly and the salad special was divine. The quail appetizer was excellent. My wife moaned as she took the first bite of the red snapper she ordered so I instantly knew it was a hit. I had the ribeye steak which I also found to be flavorful. A well managed restaurant from the hostess to the wait-staff. Well, after 7 great experiences at Brenner's I had a steak come to the table overdone. That is when they earned their high marks. They did not argue, they just took it back. The manager and his manager came to see me to make sure they had the order correct. And they delivered a new steak 8-10 minutes later that was perfect. None of us are perfect all the time.
