Il CastelloMamaroneck Gem.The almost unheard of happened on Saturday evening at Il Castello - everyone raved about their food. By everyone I mean 4 adults and 5 kids. The picky kid, the vegetarian kid, the dieting mums and the carnivore dads - everyone was happy. The service was excellent but we waited too long for our entrees and kept eating the bread. The other problem was the noise level. The staff was amazing, very attentive but not over bearing. The food was top notch. The Caesar Salad was fantastic, prepared table side. We both had pasta dishes. My wife loved her capellini with eggplant, spinach, and tomatoes and I will dream about my home made fettuccini with sausage, escarole, and white beans until I go back. I called ahead and we had a bottle of persecco waiting at the table for us when we arrived, and a plate with cheese and olives (on the house) when we sat down. They also gave us dessert on the house (ricotta cheesecake) with a candle and sang happy birthday. We had been at a theater show nearby and this restaurant was a convenient place to have dinner. We were nicely welcomed by the host and who gave us the menu and told us about some specials for the the day. We ordered from the specials as appetizer clams with mussels in wine sauce which were very flavorful. For entree we had veal valdostano and grilled halibut. Both of the entrees were nicely done. A red Montepulciano d'Abruzzo de Zaccagnini wine complimented beautifully our meal. For dessert we I had canoli artistically presented along with capuccino. The decor was very italian with nice paintings on the walls. A gentle music played on the backround. The special salad was beet with Gorgonzola cheese.
Was just the right amount of all ingredients.
The clams oreganetta were delicious.
Could of been more than six for 11.00 dollars
The chicken scarpellio special was really tasty
with hot peppers and hot sausage. One of my favorites.
The other dinner was the halibut . Cooked perfect and tasty.
