Very interesting menu. Good food, drinks and service.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMMombo is yumboFabulous food; server was perfect; food was hot (a big peeve of mine) and scrumptious...and if it had been a bit warmer we would have enjoyed one of the few tables on the patio.
We went on a Tuesday night so it was quiet for our experience....based on the size of the bar I doubt this is always the case.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat BalanceCouched in the historic South end of Portsmouth, adjacent to historic Strawberry Bank Mombo's offers a well balanced evening of great food, service and ambiance. Food is attractively plated and presented. The Frisee Salad offers a cornucopia of flavors and textures which combine like a symphony. The escolar was delicately seasoned and when paired with a moderately price Oregon Pinot Gris completed a memorable dining evening.
Prompt , friendly service and a generous pour from the bar started the night off in the right direction.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious creativityThe menu is filled with original interpretations and quality ingredients. The appetizers seem a bit pricey but we enjoyed them very much. Entrees and dessert were all great as well.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMNorth Shore FoodiesWe started at the bar and the bartender was an expert at his craft and offered new and interesting cosmo options. Blue Gin was a hit- from local distillery in NH-
Our server was polite and articulate- paced food nicely and we didn't feel rushed-

deconstructed cannoli a must have, cheesecake, bananas foster all perfectly presented and delicious5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMScrumptious! The moment you walk into Mombo, you are in a beautifully appointed, tastefully decorated, fabulous place. If you are lucky enough to sit at the chef's table, you'll also be treated to learning more about the scrumptious meal you are eating. Whether you sample the beet salad, the frisee with kumquats, the lobster bisque, the lobster rangoons, or one of the other delightful appetizers, you'll be of to a phenomenal start. For entrees, our group had crab stuffed founder, chicken three ways, roast duck, and short ribs. Each dish was more delectable than the previous one. This we followed with homemade sorbet and a deconstructed cannolli so delicious we wanted to lick our plates. If you haven't been to Mombo, make your reservation today!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was amazing! GreatThe food was amazing! Great location and atmosphere. The complaint I have was our food took forever to come out. We waited a long time for our soup appetizer and then there was a long time between the soup and entree. Just make sure you give enough time if you have plans after dinner. The food was worth the wait.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGo and Enjoy...First time..but will not be the last. Will definitely have dinner there again...

We made reservations however and weren't seated until 30-45 minutes later. Made up for it with free drinks but we were basically ignored while waiting. We find The Mombo a great place for a special night but to pricey for a once a week visit.
Roger & Wilda Green4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe dined for restaurant weekWe dined for restaurant week and the menu and service was by far the best of any of the numerous Portsmouth/Seacoast area restaurants we have visited over various restaurant weeks. The food was outstanding--delicious with gorgeous presentation! The Pickled Root Salad is a work of art and not to be missed. Everything my wife and I had was fantastic. The Restaurant Week menu was generous and creative. The service was friendly, relaxed and perfectly timed. I cannot recommend Mombo enough! We will definitely be back.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWas on a 2nd date and wantedWas on a 2nd date and wanted good food, a relaxed atmosphere and cozy side-by-side seating - Mombo hit on all cylinders! Our waiter was very knowledgeable, and affable but without going over the top. I had the ribeye and my date had the lamb lollipops both were presented beautifully and were prepared as requested. Will be back to Mombo again3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWow!What a fantastic dinner we just had! Excellent service - super cozy atmosphere - and the food was superb! We have put our food-venture list on officially on hold for a while and will be spending some time meandering through the menu at Mombo. Delicious!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe place you always recommendI have dined at Mombo on numerous occasions and never had a bad meal or bad service. The staff always treat me and my guests as if we were the only people in the restaurant. The food is well prepared with a fantastic presentation.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAdmitted food snobs were impressed.Everything about Mombo was spot on. The building is charming with a lovely bar area, small dining room downstairs and another small area upstairs. The service was attentive without hovering, professional, knowledgable and personable. The food...OMG the food. Creativly conceived, yet not fussy or pretentious. Beautifully and thoughtfully prepared. Portions were certainly ample, but not gut busting. Timing was perfect. Oh, and did I say YUM? YUM! We sat at the Chef's Bar where we could enjoy watching the creation of salads, starters and desserts, as well as the action in the kitchen. The kitchen was amazingly calm and ran like a clock. No drama, just plain fun to watch. In a town full of nice restaurants, Mombo is top of the heap.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, nothing but theAs always, nothing but the best. The Charcuterie is the best way to start a meal. Great combination of olive oil tapenade, fig jam, grilled baguetteIt slices, has mustard, cranberry olive tapenade, fig jam and red onion compote accompanied by grilled baguette slices, froie gras and prosciutto. We followed that with the salmon that is crusted with horseradish, noodles, lobster, and a fennel broth. Really great, the service is perfect and the atmosphere is the best in Portsmouth. The restaurant has such an open feel because of its post and beam interior that limits seating. The outdoor areas are great in summer. Cannot recommend a restaurant more highly.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
